I had an Amperex in my pre-amp , open but thin sounding. Then a Telefunken, lots of detail very tight bass BUt the vocals where getting lost and that's with Magnerplanars ! This Miniwatt puts the singer right in front of you. The bass is not as tight as the Telefunken or as open as the Amperex BUT it really rocks. I put in RCA 12 Au7 Black plates to get some of the air back into the sound and I think I have a winning combo. If your system is a little too laid back these might do the trick.
