The new production Mullard CV4004 / 12AX7 is a high gain, low noise 12AX7 variant with a short plate structure for reduced microphonics excellent for use in high gain Marshall pre-amplifier circuits or any combo amp where noise and microphonics can be a problem.
I used these in a JTM45 in V1 and V2, very nice sounding pre amp tubes, lots of growl.

This is my favorite new production tube! I’m running this in my Silverface Champ and it’s the closest to the JAN tube that was in it when I bought it.

I play through a Hughes & Kettner Triamp MK II. I use JJ tubes typically. I was looking for a warm and clear tube for my dirty clean channel and this tube did that. It's warm, crisp and clear. It will not add high-end brittleness. It's incredibly quiet and I use this tube in the V1 position and it adds a nice warm crisp tone to the amp. This is one of those tubes that you can't really go wrong with.

Tube neophyte, so reader beware. I recently entered the world of tubes with a Yaqin MS-12B preamp for my Rega P2 stock TT. After spending 20 hours listening to the stock Chinese tubes, I put the Mullards Ax7 and Au7’s in. The sound improvement was very noticeable. The mullards offerred a much more detailed sound. Crimson & Clover sounded flat until I put in the mullards to fully appreciate the song on my modest system.

I used it for my El84 amp and very happy with the sound

I have tried this Mullard as well as the NOS CV4004. These tubes are more laid back than the Electro Harmonix. I prefer the sound of the Tung Sol because they are more vivid and have less detail retrieval in the treble region. But many people do favor these tubes.

Fantastic preamp gain & PI tubes. I use these in 18W, 20W and 36W cathodyne and long tail pair builds and they sound great.
